Earth Day & Celebrate Trails Day Cleanup

Saturday, April 22, 2023, 9:00 AM — Oxon Cove Park & Oxon Hill Farm

Cleanup Hosted by: Potomac Riverkeeper Network, WABA, NPS

Join the Capital Trails Coalition for a day of service in celebration of Earth Day and Celebrate Trails Day at Oxon Cove Park and Oxon Hill Farm on Saturday, April 22nd!

We are partnering with the National Park Service and the Potomac Riverkeeper Network along with our friends at WABA, Anacostia Parks & Community Collaborative, Friends of Oxon Run, and DC’s Department of Energy & Environment.

We welcome volunteers of all ages to help remove single-use plastics and trash that has accumulated along the shoreline of Oxon Cove and Oxon Run. Please be prepared and dress accordingly. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet and muddy. If you have knee-high rubber boots or waders we recommend wearing them so you can help us tackle the trash below the shoreline! Please bring water (in a reusable water bottle, of course) and snacks.

The event will be running in two shifts, with access points on both the DC and the Maryland sides of the park.

Register via Eventbrite HERE. You can speed up check-in by filling our your NPS volunteer waiver ahead of time, too. Questions? Reach out to Potomac Riverkeeper Network’s Volunteer Coordinator, Morgan Bench, at morgan@prknetwork.org.

When: Saturday, April 22nd from 9AM to 3PM

Where: Oxon Cove Park & Oxon Hill Farm, 6411 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Volunteers can also access the site from the District at 17 DC Village Lane SW, Washington, DC 20032.

Cost: FREE!

First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day has become an annual rallying point for environmental protection and sustainability with over 1 billion people participating in events across the globe. Celebrate Trails Day is an annual spring celebration of America’s trails kickstarted by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy in 2013 with a goal of encouraging people across the country to get outside and enjoy the nation’s exceptional trails and trail systems.
